AB  - Here, we present results of student inernship mobility gained through implementation of web-based digital internship model suitable for the professional higher education studies (DIMPS). This model was developed and tested as a part of cooperative work between several professional higher education institutions from three  countries of the Balkan region: Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece. Our model of digital internship enables students to  gain real-world experience and skills in a remote online setting. Internship methodology integrated into DIMPS  platform permits achievement of both disciplinary and technical learning outcomes, as well as the academic-related  generic outcomes. We successfully applied this digital platform in the context of international virtual student  exchange between Balkan countries, demonstrating its flexibility and suitability for inclusive professional higher  education. Importantly, DIMPS platform may contribute to the promotion of the attractiveness of the study 
programs, thus growing the internationalization of the higher education in Balkans.

Nutritional Impact on Brain Function: Food for Thought, Emotions and Wellbeing

AB  - The rate of cognitive and emotional dysfunction is increasing in the modern society, therefore nutritional impact on thebrain functioning is receiving higher attention in science and practice. In order to summarize the latest scientific knowledgeconcerning nutritional impact on the nervous system and particularly on the brain functioning we performed literature search andanalysis. Increasing number of scientific data show that macronutrients and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) affect multiplebrain processes through control of diverse mechanisms as: synaptic transmission, neurotransmitter pathways, signal-transductionpathways, membrane fluidity, epigenetic changes, etc. Impact of specific macronutrients and micronutrients in brain functioning andtheir food source is presented in details. AB  - Људски фактор представља статистички најзначајнији узрок саобраћајних
незгода због тога је сложени феномен ризичног понашања возача од посебног интереса за
безбедност у саобраћају. Когнитивно ометање је везано за ризично понашање возача које
представља свако посвећивање менталне и психичке пажње другим унутрашњим и
спољашњим стимулусима који нису од значаја за управљање возилом и прилогођавању
променљивим условима кретања. У овом раду презентовани су најчешћи узрочници
когнитивног ометања, ефекти који они имају на способност возача, као и мере које се
могу предузети како би се превенирао њихов утицај на безбедност саобраћаја. Тешко је
замисливо да ће узрочници когнитивног ометања икада у потпуности бити отклоњени.
Ипак, с обзиром на њихов велики утицај на изазивање саобраћајних незгода они заслужују
више простора у едукацији возача, подизању свести о њиховом постојању и ефектима на
безбедност вожње и превентивним мерама које се могу предузети на њиховом
отклањању.
AB  - Ljudski faktor predstavlja statistički najznačajniji uzrok saobraćajnih
nezgoda zbog toga je složeni fenomen rizičnog ponašanja vozača od posebnog interesa za
bezbednost u saobraćaju. Kognitivno ometanje je vezano za rizično ponašanje vozača koje
predstavlja svako posvećivanje mentalne i psihičke pažnje drugim unutrašnjim i
spoljašnjim stimulusima koji nisu od značaja za upravljanje vozilom i prilogođavanju
promenljivim uslovima kretanja. U ovom radu prezentovani su najčešći uzročnici
kognitivnog ometanja, efekti koji oni imaju na sposobnost vozača, kao i mere koje se
mogu preduzeti kako bi se prevenirao njihov uticaj na bezbednost saobraćaja. Teško je
zamislivo da će uzročnici kognitivnog ometanja ikada u potpunosti biti otklonjeni.
Ipak, s obzirom na njihov veliki uticaj na izazivanje saobraćajnih nezgoda oni zaslužuju
više prostora u edukaciji vozača, podizanju svesti o njihovom postojanju i efektima na
bezbednost vožnje i preventivnim merama koje se mogu preduzeti na njihovom
otklanjanju.
AB  - The human factor is statistically the most significant cause of traffic accidents, which is
why the complex phenomenon of risky behavior of drivers is of special interest for traffic safety.
Cognitive distraction is related to the risky behavior of the driver, which is any devotion of mental
and psychological attention to other internal and external stimuli that are not important for driving
and adapting to changing driving conditions. This paper presents the most common causes of
cognitive impairment, the effects they have on the ability of drivers, as well as measures that can be
taken to prevent their impact on traffic safety. It is hard to imagine that the causes of cognitive
distraction will ever be completely eliminated. However, given their great impact on causing
accidents, they deserve more space in educating drivers, raising awareness of their existence and
the effects on driving safety and the preventive measures that can be taken for their elimination.

Biological mechanisms of ectopic lymphoid structure formation and their pathophysiological significance

AB  - Ectopic lymphoid structures (ELS) or tertiary lymphoid organs are structures with the organization similar to the one of secondary lymphoid organs, formed in non-lymphoid tissues. They are considered to be an important site for the lymphocytic physiological and pathological role in conditions such are chronic infections, autoimmune diseases, cancer, and allograft rejection. Although similar to the secondary lymphoid tissues, the initiation of ELS formation is not preprogramed and requires chronic inflammation, expression of homeostatic chemokines, and lymphotoxin beta receptor activation. Importantly, while ELS formation may be considered beneficiary in antimicrobial and antitumor immunity, the persistence of these active lymphoid structures within the tissue increase the chance for development of autoimmunity and lymphoma. This paper is providing an overview of biological mechanisms involved in ELS formation, as well as the overview of the pathophysiological role of these structures. In addition, the paper discusses the possibility to therapeutically target ELS formation, bearing in mind their bivalent nature and role in different pathophysiological conditions.

The new role for an old guy: MYC as an immunoplayer

AB  - As an oncogene, myelocytomatosis oncogene (MYC) is implicated in the concept of "oncogene addiction," where switching off the oncogene leads to the cell cycle arrest and cell differentiation. However, recent data suggest that MYC also controls the establishment of the tumour microenvironment and that "oncogene addiction" actually has a strong immune background. Evaluation of the MYC role in the immunoediting process led to the speculation that cancer just uses and distorts the physiological mechanism by which MYC normally prevents rapidly proliferating cells from the elicitation of an autoimmune response. Concordantly, elevated levels of MYC and induction of immunosuppressive molecules are observed during the processes of growth and development, tissue repair, placenta development, and so forth, implying that MYC may be involved in saving regular physiologically proliferating cells from the immune system attack. Even more, a growing body of evidence suggests MYC involvement in the shaping of the adaptive immune response, immunological memory development, and establishment of immunotolerance. This paper offers an overview of MYC actions in the context of modulation of the immune response in pathological and physiological conditions. The determination of such a new role for a well-known oncogene opens new perspectives in biomedicine, and consequently, in the treatment of various pathological conditions.

Obscure Involvement of MYC in Neurodegenerative Diseases and Neuronal Repair

AB  - MYC is well known as a potent oncogene involved in regulating cell cycle and metabolism. Augmented MYC expression leads to cell cycle dysregulation, intense cell proliferation, and carcinogenesis. Surprisingly, its increased expression in neurons does not induce their proliferation, but leads to neuronal cell death and consequent development of a neurodegenerative phenotype. Interestingly, while cancer and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease are placed at the opposite sides of cell division spectrum, both start with cell cycle dysregulation and stimulation of proliferation. It seems that MYC action directed toward neuron cell proliferation and neural tissue repair collides with evolutional loss of regenerative capacity of CNS neurons in order to strengthen synaptic structure, to protect our cognitive abilities and therefore character. Accordingly, there are abundant mechanisms that block its expression and action specifically in the brain. Moreover, while MYC expression in brain neurons during neurodegenerative processes is related to their death, there are obvious evidences that MYC action after physical injury is beneficial in case of peripheral nerve recovery. MYC might be a useful tool to repair brain cells upon development of neurodegenerative disease or CNS trauma, including stroke and traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, as even imperfect axonal growth and regeneration strategies will likely be of profound benefit. Understanding complex control of MYC action in the brain might have important therapeutic significance, but also it may contribute to the comprehension of development of neurodegenerative diseases.

Nowadays the tools for measuring physiological responses of the brain used in neuromarketing tend to be quite affordable and easy to use. Huge number of companies already offer neuromarketing service but neuromarketing curriculum is offered in just a few academic institutions. One of the still opened questions concerning studying neuromarketing as academic discipline is the final goal of neuromarketing approach in business: profit or sustainable development. In the last few years neuromarketing was used as an approach in initiatives whose aim is sustainability, solidarity and humanitarianism. This paper discuss reasons for involvement of such neurobiological approach within modern business education.
AB  - Недавние прорывы в нейробиологии и нейробиологии помогают нам понять функции мозга, и эти знания могут быть в дальнейшем использованы для формирования и развития управления, создания команды
и инноваций в деловой практике. В настоящее время инструменты для измерения физиологических реакций мозга, используемые в нейромаркетинге, как правило, вполне доступны и просты в использовании.
Огромное количество компаний уже предлагают услуги нейромаркетинга, но учебные программы по
нейромаркетингу предлагаются лишь в нескольких академических учреждениях. Одним из нерешенных
вопросов, касающихся изучения нейромаркетинга как учебной дисциплины, является конечная цель нейромаркетингового подхода в бизнесе: прибыль или устойчивое развитие. В последние несколько лет нейромаркетинг использовался как подход в инициативах, цель которых – устойчивость, солидарность и гуманизм. В данной статье обсуждаются причины использования такого нейробиологического подхода
в современном бизнес-образовании.

Putative role of marginal zone B cells in pathophysiological processes

AB  - The maintenance of inner integrity of an organism is founded on the proper performance of two immunity branches, innate and adaptive immune responses. Recently, it became apparent that subset of splenic B cells named marginal zone B cells (MZB cells) exhibits unique developmental and functional features that bridge these two immunity branches. Strategically positioned at the site where blood and lymph are filtered, MZB cells represent a population of sentinels that rapidly proliferate and differentiate into IgM plasmablast cells when encountered with blood-borne, thymus-independent (TI) Ags. Moreover, MZB cells have intrinsic capability to induce potent CD4(+)helper T cell response and cytokine production upon stimulation with soluble antigens. Due to their ability to overcome a time gap prior the establishment of the full adaptive response towards pathogens, MZB cells connect and direct innate and adaptive immunity. An additional interesting characteristic of MZB cells is capacity to function as regulatory cells in autoimmune processes. MZB cells may also contribute to the control of autoimmunity via the induction of tolerance by apoptotic cells. Importantly, in the clear association with inflammation and autoimmunity, MZB cells may transform into MALT lymphoma, representing a concurrence point for the infection, immunity and malignancy. This paper presents an insight into the complex biology of marginal zone B cells and their role in intertwining and directing innate and adaptive immune processes at the physiological and pathological level.

AB  - Few topics in science raised so much controversy as that of genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. Engineered by
technics of recombinant DNA, GMOs include genes from other organisms to produce a particular trait, such as disease or
pesticide resistance. However, while GMO technology is still considered to be “new” and not fully understood, recent discovery
of gene-editing tool CRISPR/Cas9, with ability to cut out genes and splice in new ones, even more, to do it in vivo, gives a
promise for a completely new approach to the production of crop with desirable genetic traits. There is a distinction between
'genetically modified organisms' (GMOs) generated through the transgenic introduction of foreign DNA sequences and 'genomeedited
crops' (GECs) generated through precise editing of an organism's native genome. In this paper, we will give an overview of
CRISPR/Cas9 applications, as well as of benefits and major issues regarding the use of genetically edited organisms in food
production and medicine.

AB  - Stres kao opšta nespecifična reakcija organizma izazvana nepovoljnim i štetnim uticajima
iz spoljašnje i unutrašnje sredine (stresogenim faktorima) može biti po svojoj prirodi fizički,
biološki, psihološki, socijalni i psiho-socijalni. Kod profesionalnog stresa fizički i psihosocijalni
faktori radne sredine se posmatraju kao faktori stresa koji mogu da dovedu do poremećaja fizičkog
i mentalnog zdravlja radnika, a njegova etiologija vezana je za uslove i zahteve posla, ali i
individualne karakteristike samog radnika. U ovom smislu stres je uzročno-posledično povezan sa
zamorom i ergonomskim rizikom.
Razumevanje fenomena stresa i detekcija stresogenih faktora prvi su korak u unapredjenju radne
sredine. Drugi korak u ovom procesu predstavlja kontrola stresogenih faktora i razvoj mera
prevencije za sprečavanje pojave stresa kod zaposlenih. Krajnji efekat primene ova dva koraka biće
veća produktivnost rada, redje odsustvo sa posla i bolje opšte i psihičko zdravlje zaposlenih. U
ovom radu pokušali smo da definišemo sve stresogene faktore u radnoj sredini, uzroke njihove
pojave, kao i mere za njihovu kontrolu i prevenciju koje je neophodno preuzeti.
AB  - Stress as a general non-specific reaction of an organism caused by adverse and harmful
influences from the external and internal environment (stress factors) can be physical, biological,
psychological, social and psycho-social in its nature. In occupational stress, physical and
psychosocial factors of the work environment are considered as factors of stress that can lead to
disruption of the physical and mental health of the worker, and their etiology is related to the
conditions and requirements of the job as well as to the individual characteristics of the worker. In
this sense, stress is causally linked to fatigue and ergonomic risk.
Understanding the phenomenon of stress and the detection of stress factors are the first step in
improving the working environment. The second step in this process is the control of stress factors
and the development of prevention measures. The ultimate effect of applying these two steps will be
higher productivity of work, less time off from work, and better general and mental health of
employees. In this paper we have tried to define all the stress factors in the work environment, the
cause of their occurrence, as well as the measures for their control and prevention that need to be
taken.

AB  - Muskuloskeletni bol je toliko često prisutan da se smatra normalnim elementom života i rada. Javlja se kao posledica repetitivnih naprezanja zbog intenzivnog radnog napora kao i zbog radom nastalih muskuloskeletnih poremećaja. Muskuloskeletni bol ima značajan učinak na sposobnost za obavljanje radnih aktivnosti, ali i na raspoloženje i motivaciju zaposlenih. Zajedno sa stresom pokazuje snažno sinergističko dejstvo.
Osnovni dijagnostički kriterijumi su bol i bolna osetljivost unutar nekog dela tela, a koji potiču iz mišića, ligamenata, kostiju ili zglobova. Tranzicija iz akutnog u hronični muskuloskeletni bol do danas nije u potpunosti razjašnjena. Za potpuno razumevanje nesposobnosti i ograničenosti obavljanja radnih aktivnosti uzrokovane pojavom bola neophodan je biopsihosocijalni pristup. Danas se u kliničke i psiho-socijalne faktore rizika za ograničenost ili nesposobnost za rad ubrajaju: godine starosti, intenzitet bola, prisustvo drugih hroničnih bolesti, stres, negativno emocionalno stanje, način na koji individua reaguje na bol, zadovoljstvo sopstvenim poslom, očekivanja od povratka na posao, finansijsko stanje u porodici.
Iz perspektive menadžmenta veoma je važno redukovati intenzitet bola i dužinu njegovog trajanja kod zaposlenih. U ovu svrhu neophodno je primeniti mere kako na kliničkom nivou, tako i na nivou unapređenja psiho-fizičkih sposobnosti zaposlenih i poštovanju načela ergonomije u radnom prostoru. Sa druge strane svesni kompleksnosti fenomena muskoleskeletnog bola i nemogućnosti njegove jednostavne i trajne eliminacije pažnju moramo posvetiti unapređenju funkcionisanja zaposlenih kroz sistemske mere.
AB  - Musculoskeletal pain is so often present that it is considered a normal element of life and work. It occurs as a consequence of repetitive stress due to intense work effort or because of musculoskeletal disorders. Musculoskeletal pain has a significant effect on the ability to perform work activities, but also on the mood and motivation of employees. Together with stress it shows a strong synergistic effect.
The basic diagnostic criteria are pain and painful sensitivity within a part of the body, which comes from muscles, ligaments, bones or joints. The transition from acute to chronic musculoskeletal pain has not been fully clarified till today. In order to fully understand the incompetence and limitation of performing work activities caused by the onset of pain biopsychosocial approach is necessary. Clinical and psycho-social factors that limit capability for work are: age, intensity of pain, the presence of other chronic diseases, stress, negative emotional state, the mode in which the individual responds to pain, satisfaction with his own work, expectations of return to work, financial situation in the family.
From the perspective of management, it is very important to reduce the intensity of pain and the length of time it lasts. For this purpose, it is necessary to apply measures both at the clinical level and at the level of improving the psycho-physical abilities of the employees and respecting the principles of ergonomics in the workplace. On the other hand, aware of the complexity of the musculoskeletal pain phenomenon and the impossibility of its simple and permanent elimination, we must pay attention to improving the functioning of employees through systemic measures.

AB  - The design and construction of new biological systems in the way engineers design electronic or mechanical systems is the primary goal of synthetic biology. The ability to create and modify life forms and easy access to information to do so has raised a number of issues related to ethics and security. In the era of rapid development of biotechnology, and the perception of the consequent risks to the environment and health, the ethics of knowledge becomes a matter of practical significance. The concern about the misuse of knowledge from synthetic biology influences new risk reduction strategies, which can have significant effects on scientific progress. This paper will provide an overview of the main bioethical and biosafety issues of synthetic biology.
AB  - Projektovanje i izgradnja novih bioloških sistema na način kako inženjeri dizajniraju elektronske ili mehaničke sisteme je primaran cilj sintetičke biologije. Sposobnost stvaranja i modifikacije životnih oblika i lak pristup informacijama kako to učiniti, pokrenula je brojna pitanja vezana za etiku i bezbednost. U doba brzog razvoja biotehnologije, i uviđanja posledičnih rizika po životnu sredinu i zdravlje, etika znanja postaje stvar od praktičnog značaja. Zabrinutost zbog zloupotrebe znanja iz sintetičke biologije utiče na nove strategije za smanjenje rizika, a što može imati značajne efekte na naučni napredak. Ovaj rad će dati pregled glavnih bioetičkih i biosigurnosnih pitanja sintetičke biologije.

C-myc misregulation triggers complex process of genomic instability

AB  - Genetic stability is an essential factor for the cellular integrity. Failure in its maintenance leads to accumulation of errors derived from the process of DNA replication, cellular metabolism, action of endogenous and exogenous DNA damaging factors and eventually, as a final outcome tumor initiation and progression occur. Overall manifestation of c-Myc deregulation in many tumors and different mechanisms of Myc's action toward genomic stability suggest that this gene plays a central role in destabilization of genome. Microarray studies and functional genomics approach led us to conclusion that c-Myc can control nuclear architecture in global fashion since about 15% of all cellular genes are regulated by this transcription factor. Deregulation of c-illyc gene triggers a composite network of genomic instability that may result in several different outcomes as: locus-specific amplification, formation of extrachromosomal elements (EEs), chromosomal instability, long-range illegitimate recombination, point mutations, DNA breakage and nuclear structure reorganization This review outlines the growing evidence that c-Myc oncogene induces a complex network of genomic instability and describes systems and circumstances under which deregulation of c-Myc results in specific types of genomic alteration.

Neurosciences and neuroimaging in service of neuroeconomics

AB  - As a consequence of significant development of neurosciences several different scientific fields as neuroeducation, neuroesthetics, nerotheology, neuromarketing etc. had been established. Neuroeconomics is interdisciplinary scientific field that has aim to explain neurological mechanisms of decision-making process, mental ability of consideration of several possible alternatives, and ability to follow certain direction of action. Neuroeconomics is based on research methods, techniques and models that are overtaken from neurosciences, but also from cognitive and social psychology, as well as from experimental and behavioral economics. In practical sense, neuroeconomics is mainly involved in situations in which humans are not behaving according to rational model, but rather according to innate and adapted schemes of behavior and due to their strong emotional reaction. In this way, knowledge from the scientific fields of neurology and neurosciences that are obtained mainly by usage of neuroimaging, are used in example to investigate market or to determine functioning of employees in critical situations. This kind of practical approach opens several ethical and legal dilemmas.
AB  - Kao posledica snažnog razvoja neuronauke poslednjih godina uspostavljen je veći broj neurodisciplina poput neuroedukacije, neuroestetike, neuroteologije, neuromarketinga i sl. Neurekonomija je interdisciplinarno naučno polje koje ima za cilj da objasni neurološke mehanizme procesa donošenja odluka, mentalnu sposobnost razmatranja više mogućih alternativa i sposobnost sprovodjenja izabranog pravca akcije. Neuroekonomija se bazira na istraživačkim metodama, tehnikama i modelima koje preuzima iz neuronauke, ali i kognitivne i socijalne psihologije, kao i iz eksperimentalne i bihevioralne ekonomije. U praktičnom smislu uglavnom se bavi situacijama u kojima se ljudi ne upravljaju prema racionalnom modelu ponašanja, već se njihov izbor zasniva na urodjenim i usvojenim šemama ponašanja i emocionalnoj reakciji. Na ovaj način znanja iz oblasti neurologije i neuronauke, a koja se pribavljaju uglavnom putem neuroimidžinga, koriste se u cilju ispitivanja ekonomskog tržišta ili na primer načina funkcionisanja zaposlenih u kriznim situacijama. Ovakav praktični pristup definitivno otvora i brojna etička i pravna pitanja.

AB  - Od svog utemeljenja u sedamdesetim godinama dvadesetog veka do danas, tehnologija genetičkog
inženjerstva otvorila je širok niz primena pre svega u nauci, proizvodnji lekova, medicini i proizvodnji
hrane. Upotreba genetski modifikovanih organizama u ovim delatnostima jedno je od najaktuelnijih pitanja
današnjice na koje tek treba da se definišu odgovori. Od svih aktuelnih tema iz ove oblasti najmanje je
pažnje posvećeno potencijalnoj primeni genetski modifikovanih organizama u zaštiti životne sredine.
Uzevši u obzir da je pitanje zaštite životne sredine jedno od najaktuelnijih pitanja današnjice, u ovom radu
prezentovali smo pojedine primere upotrebe genetski modifikovanih mikroorganizama, genetski
modifikovanih biljaka i genetski modifikovanih životinja kao potencijalnih rešenja ovog gorućeg
problema. S obzirom da se u javnosti poslednjih nekoliko godina vode oštre polemike oko dalje primene
tehnologije genetičkog inženjerstva, jasno je da smo daleko od konačne odluke. Evidentno je da nas u daljim
koracima mora voditi oprez i analiza postojećih i budućih naučnih istraživanja na temu bezbednosti ove
tehnologije
