hendikepa kod osoba sa prezbiakuzijom u emocionalnom (E1 M=30,58;
E2 M – 20,68; p=0,001) i socijalnom funkcionisanju (E1 M=29,49; E2 M=22;
p=0,006), kao i u ukupnim rezultatima (E1 M=60,05 E2 M=42,68; p=0,001).
odraslih osoba.
AB - Introduction: Presbycusis and tinnitus are very common conditions in elderly
people. There is a lot of evidence, based on self-assessment, that both of these phenomena
affect the quality of life and psychosocial functioning of persons. Most research has dealt with
these phenomena in isolation, so there is very little evidence of how these two conditions
work when they coexist.
Aim: The aim of this paper was to examine how tinnitus affects the Individual perception
of hearing handicap in people with presbycusis.
Methods: The sample consisted of 100 subjects of both genders with an average
age of 67.11. The sample was divided into two groups: E1 – subjects with presbyacusis
and tinnitus and E2 – subjects with presbyacusis without tinnitus. Two questionnaires were
used for data collection: the Questionnaire for collecting general socio-demographic data
and the Hearing Handicap Inventories for the Elderly.
Results: The results show that tinnitus significantly affects the individual perception of
handicap in persons with presbycusis in both emotional (E1 M=30,58; E2 M – 20.68; p=0,001)
and social functioning (E1 M =29.49; E2 M=22; p=0,006), as well as in the overall results (E1
M=60,05 E2 M=42,68; p=0,001).
Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be concluded that tinnitus, which is a
common entity in presbyacusis, is a very serious phenomenon that significantly affects
personal experience of difficulties in the psychosocial functioning of adults.

The Covid-19 pandemic has considerably affected many aspects of human life, especially healthcare and social services. The contacts of elderly people with family and friends, as well as their social activities, have been drastically reduced due to fear of contagious diseases with potentially serious consequences. Preventive measures of physical distancing and obligatory protective masks have brought additional challenges for hearing-impaired persons because of the decreased intensity and muffled quality of speech signals as well as the lack of visual cues because of the face masks. Objective. The study aimed to identify the challenges that adult hearing aid users faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods. A special questionnaire was developed for the purpose of this study with a 3-point Likert type of scale. Results. The results of the study have shown that effective communication with other people during the pandemic was a great challenge for hearing-impaired participants. They pointed out the use of face masks and avoidance of communication with other people due to the fear of misunderstanding others. The participants noticed some changes in listening with hearing aids as well as mood swings and compliance to hearing aids. Most of the participants were satisfied with the access to hearing aids, fitting, and repair services, but none of them had access to rehabilitation and advisory support. Conclusion. The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the need for developing a network for alternative methods and approaches in surdology to provide advisory and rehabilitation services for hearing-impaired people as well as technical support for hearing aid users. That would be the way to provide ongoing support for hearing aid users, not only in extreme situations, such as the pandemic, but to increase the accessibility of those services in everyday life for all users.

Presbycusis or age-related hearing loss is a physiological elevation of hearing threshold and is one of the leading
chronic health problems. A growing number of studies show a
correlation between hearing loss in old age and decline in cognitive function. Material and Methods. The Serbian version of
the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test was used, and the study
included 56 subjects with a confirmed diagnosis of presbycusis
of which 29 (51.8%) were hearing aid users. Results. The score
of cognitive function in the respondents was lower compared to
the results of previous research (mean = 19.07; standard deviation
= 5.03). Also, there were significant differences between the
scores of cognitive function in persons who used amplification
and persons who did not. There was no significant correlation
between gender, employment status, and the degree of hearing
impairment, while the correlation was significant between the
level of education, age, the length of hearing aid use, and the
number of hours per day a person used a hearing aid. Regression
analysis showed that about 88% of the variance of the dependent
variable could be explained by four variables: age, level of education, length of hearing aid use, and daily level of hearing aid
use. Conclusion. Persons with presbycusis from the territory of
the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina showed poor performance scores on the cognitive ability test compared to the results
of other researchers. The results showed that the length of hearing aid use and the daily level of hearing aid use significantly
affect the cognitive functions in persons with presbycusis.
Sve veći broj istraživanja pokazuje međusobnu povezanost gubitka sluha u starosti i pada kognitivne funkcije. Materijal i metode.
(srednja vrednost = 19,07; standradna devijacija = 5,03).
i brojem sati u danu u kom osoba koristi slušni aparat.
promenljive objašnjavaju četiri varijable – starost, stepen obrazovanja, dužina korišćenja i dnevni nivo korišćenja slušnog
aparata.

AB - Hearing impairment is much more than isolated sensory deficit affecting mostly speech and hearing development. Hearing loss could be associated with variety of negative consequences affecting physical, psychological, social, cognitive, economic and emotional domain. Considering those facts, mutlidisciplinary approach in surdology practice is inevitable in order to minimize deleterious effect of hearing impairment on quality of life of the deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Multidisciplinary approach in surdology is not a new concept. However, the structure of the individuals requiring surdological intervention has been changed considerably in the last decades, so that the concept of multidisciplinary strategy had to be modified. The authors of this review are going to analyze the changes in multidisciplinary approch as well as the factors that have induced those changes. Surdological rehabilitation practice has been changed a great deal lately due to enormous increase of the deaf children with complex needs. Researchers from Gallaudet Universty have found 40-50% of the deaf or hard of hearing persons with additional diagnosis (Hoffman et al., 2019). The focus of the surdology intervention has been extended not only to congenital hearing impairment in children, but to hearing loss aqcuired accross the life span, which could considerably affect the quality of life of the individual as well. Minimal or mild hearing impairment has been taken into consideration lately due to serious consequences on learning process in school children and later in life. Changes in surdology perspective led to reconsideration of the classical approach and improved collaboration with other professionals in order to provide optimal aproach to all users.

AB - Inclusion is the process of wider involvement of children with disability into mainstream education system and further on into various social aspects. Inclusion promoters claim that the acceptance of children with disability by their peers in mainstream schools is a corner stone of inclusion. Promoters believe that positive attitude of typically developing students is a crucial factor of successful implementation of inclusion process. Hearing impairment is the most frequent congenital sensory handicap. Hearing impairment affects speech and cognitive development and therefor presents significant health and social burden in the considerable part ofpopulation.
The goal of this study was to assess if the presence of a disabled person in a family could affect the attitude of older students (6th, 7th and 8th grade) towards deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstream school. The instrument in this study was the adapted questionnaire Attitudes toward Deafness afour-point 25-item rating scale (Cowen etal., 1967).
The study was conducted in five mainstream primary schools. The sample contained 255 typically developing students of both genders, attending 6th, Th or 8a grade. They came for various social strata.
The results have shown that the students have mostly positive attitude regarding deaf and hard of hearing schoolmates. Students coming from families with disabled person usually have developed more sympathetic attitude.

AB - Auditory behavior is a system of dependent actions dedicated to certain
functions (speech, communication, consciousness about environment,
independent functioning), demanding interaction of a subject with the
environment. Auditory behavior is a social skill representing specific response
to stimulation by sound, speech or other. Specific language impairment
(SLI) now often referred to as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
is diagnosed when a child’s language does not develop normally and the
difficulties cannot be accounted for by generally slow development, physical
abnormality of the speech apparatus, autism spectrum disorder, apraxia,
acquired brain damage or hearing loss. The subject of the research was to
examine the auditory behavior and reactions of children with Developmental
Language Disorder (DLD) from the perspective of parents. Auditory behavior
was estimated in a noisy environment and in quiet surroundings using
P.E.A.C.H. questionnaire. We investigated whether the chronological age of
the child, age of diagnosis, length and intensity of rehabilitation influence the
frequency of auditory behavior. The sample consisted of 35 subjects aged 3.3
to 9.11 years, average intellectual abilities, with DLD, of which 23 were boys
and 12 girls. Our results have shown that there is no statistically significant
difference in the frequency of auditory behavior between boys and girls. We
did not get a statistically significant difference in the frequency of auditory
behavior in silence and in noise environment in relation to chronological
age, age of diagnosis, the length and intensity of rehabilitation. We compared
the answers on P.E.A.C.H. questionnaire for children with different speech
and language disorders and did not get a significant difference. There is a
significant effect of noisy environment on auditory behavior in the overall
sample.
Auditivno po- našanje se procenjivalo u tihom i bučnom okruženju korišćenjem Parents Evaluation of Aural/oral performance of Children ( P.E.A.C.H.) upitnika.

AB - Congenital or early postnatal hearing impairment could be caused by
various etiology factors, but it always significantly affects speech-language and
cognitive development of a child. Prevention, early detection and intervention
for permanent childhood hearing loss (PCHL) are top priorities for pediatric
surdology and audiology professionals. It is necessary to select and follow
up pediatric population at risk for the development of significant hearing
impairment. Definition of a list of risk factors that could cause congenital or
delayed-onset hearing loss in children is mandatory. Widely used Risk factors
list declared by Joint Committee of Infant Hearing (JCIH) has been criticized
by numerous authors and considered insufficient, especially regarding
perinatal and postnatal risk factors. Despite the several revisions, the JCIH
list is still not comprehensive and congruent with contemporary studies and
needs further improvement. The objective of our study was critical review of
risk factors which are frequently linked to considerable PCHL. More than
40 studies regarding this topic have been critically reviewed and analyzed.
This analysis have shown high variability and incongruencies regarding
findings and recommendations of those studies, due to insufficient sample or
inadequate assessment criteria. The authors usually have pointed out following
risk factors responsible for PCHL: long stay in neonatal intensive care unit
(NICU for more than 5 days), low birth weight (<1500g), low APGAR score
(0-3), hyperbilirubinemia, mechanical ventilation (MV), ototoxic medication,
intrauterine infections (particularly cytomegalovirus), postnatal infections
(bacterial meningitis), craniofacial malformations, various syndromes and
family history of deafness. Further studies on larger cohorts of children
should be conducted through programs for early detection of congenital and
early acquired hearing loss in children in order to define evidence-based risk
factors for PCHL and improve intervention practice.
Imajući to u vidu, autori najčešće navode sledeće etiološke faktore oštećenja sluha: boravak u jedinicama intenzivne neonatalne nege duži od pet dana, mala telesna masa, nizak APGAR skor, hiperbilirubinemija, mehanička ventilacija, ototoksična te- rapija, intrauterine infekcije (naročito citomegalovirus), postna- talne infekcije (bakterijski meningitis), kraniofacijalne malfor- macije, sindromi i pozitivna porodična anamneza.

AB - Auditory behavior is a social skill representing specific response to stimulation by sound, speech or other acoustic stimuli. Normal hearing newborn babies prefer their mother's voice to any other due to experience during the late intrauterine development. Some prematurely born babies lack that experience and acquire their first acoustic experience under specific conditions in neonatal intensive care unit. Te lack of family environment, separation from mother and high ambient noise could have negative impact on early auditory development of a prematurely born child. Te goal of the study was to investigate the impact of socioeconomic characteristics of family on auditory development of prematurely born children during the first year of life. Te sample consisted of 150 prematurely born children of both genders, born in the Republic of Serbia. Data about family environment were obtained from parents or case history, while auditory development was assessed by LittlEARS® auditory scale. Te results of the study showed that permanent employment of the mother and occasional employment of the father had a positive correlation with higher auditory achievement in children at the corrected age of 12 months. Analysis of the impact of family factors on trajectories of auditory development in prematurely born children showed that father's occasional employment improved the pace of auditory development, while siblings in the family significantly improved auditory achievement initially. Te results imply that multiple heterogeneous auditory (especially language) stimulation during the first year of life have a positive impact on auditory development of preterm babies regardless of the prematurity level.

Savremeni modeli amplifikacije i primena kohlearnog implanta, u poslednjih dvadeset godina doveli su do značajnih promena u lingvističkim sposobnostima gluve i nagluve dece.

functional). The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of category
variables (frequency, percentage and bivariant χ2 test for assessment
of statistical significance of difference between variables). The children
were divided in three categories according to their hearing age: less than
2 y, 2-4 y and 4-6 y. Hearing age showed a statistically significant effect
on overall test results regarding linguistic skills (p = 0.014) as well as in
the subtests of everyday communication skills: span of communication
intention (p = 0.011), communication effectiveness (p = 0.013), receptive
communication skills (p = 0.012) and listening and lip reading (p = 0.014).
The best performing group in this study of actual linguistic skills was the
one with hearing age 2 to 4 years.

AB - Considerable changes in treatment of children with congenital
hearing loss during recent decades have enabled speech and language
development like the timeline of typically developing children. There are
three major reasons for that: 1. Early detection and intervention, 2. State
of art amplification and 3. Changes in habilitation strategies according to
afore mentioned reasons. The objective of the study was to discover the
influence of the age at detection of hearing loss, type of amplification,
hearing age and habilitation duration on speech development in deaf and
hard of hearing children. The sample consisted of 43 deaf or hard of hearing
children of pre-school age. Nineteen children had hearing aids and 24 had
cochlear implant and their hearing age ranged from 0 to 6 years. The data
about children were summoned from medical records and assessment
of speech skills was done by a therapist - surdologist. Profile of Actual
Speech Skills (PASS, Ear Foundation, 2004) was used for assessment of
four levels of initial speech development: speech (recognizable phoneme/
syllable), speech like (allophonic phoneme variation), non-speech (premeaning
vocalization) and other symbols (silent mimic movements). The
data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage)
and χ2 test. The results showed that majority of the children from the
sample (83.7%) were on the level of onomatopoeias and logatomes, 11%
were on allophone level, while 4.7% of children were nonverbal, still
capable to produce some symbols of oral praxia or voice. None of the
children in this study were on the silent mimic movement level. Analyzing
the impact of different factors of habilitation, we found that only hearing
age affected speech achievement at a statistically significant level (χ2 =
11.67, df = 4, p = 0.02). The children with hearing age 2-4 years showed
statistically significantly better achievement in comparison not only to
the younger group, but to the older group as well.

AB - Introduction: Several population studies have shown that as many as 30-40% children with permanent hearing loss have additional disabilities. Until recently hearing impaired children with complex needs were considered unsuitable for cochlear implantation, except the deaf-blind children. The deaf kids with complex needs have been deprived of benefit of state-of-the-art solutions because of adverse outcomes and limited benefit from cochlear implantation, not as obvious as in general population of CI recipients.
Objective: The aim of this study was to explore quality of life benefits in cochlear implanted children with complex needs and their families.
Methods: The sample in this research consisted of cochlear implanted children with complex needs, such as various syndromes, cognitive deficiency, cerebral palsy, autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, visual impairment, etc. Improvement of the quality of life for CI children with complex needs and their families has been assessed by QLICI questionnaire for parents (Herrmannova, 2016). The QLICI questionnaire has been used to evaluate seven different aspects of quality of life -– communication, child’s safety, behavior, family and social relationships, attitude of society towards child, education and economic status of family. One or both parents answered the questionnaire. All the children in this study had more than one year of CI experience.
Results: The results of this study have proven considerable improvement in all the aspects of quality of life encompassed by QLICI questionnaire. The biggest progress has been observed in the domain of child’s safety, education, communication and family/social relationship, as well as
mina.mikic@gmail.com
1 Part the overall level of satisfaction. The least benefit from CI implantation in complex kids have been achieved regarding economic status of family.
Conclusion: Cochlear implantation in children with complex needs has shown s significant benefit regarding quality of life, although the outcome regarding speech-language development is not as prominent as in children without additional handicap.

abstract = "Introduction: Several population studies have shown that as many as 30-40% children with permanent hearing loss have additional disabilities.
Conclusion: Cochlear implantation in children with complex needs has shown s significant benefit regarding quality of life, although the outcome regarding speech-language development is not as prominent as in children without additional handicap.",

AB - Hearing impairment is frequently met in preterm babies as compared to well baby population. Incidence of congenital and perinatal hearing loss in prematurely born children is 2-4% and in case of extreme prematurity (less than 32 GW) it could reach 6 %. It could be caused by extreme immaturity of the newborn baby as well as by multiple risk factors (gestational age, extremely low birth weight, hypoxia, hyperbilirubinaemia, infection, ototoxic medication, prolonged NICU stay, mechanic ventilation) Procena stanja sluha kod prevremeno roĊenog deteta je izuzetno sloţena, a tumaĉenje dobijenih rezultata zahteva veliko iskustvo I poznavanje miljokaza i sloţenosti razvoja u ovoj populaciji. Pored kohlearnog oštećenja sluha ĉesto se mogu javiti I retrokohlearni problemi usled auditivne neuropatije i disnhronije, ali i nezrelosti centralnih auditivnih puiteva. Hearing screening in prematurely born babies should not be restricted to otoacoustic emission testing (OAE), but automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) is mandatory for detection of retrocochlear pathology which is frequently seen in those babies. In case of several negative OAE tests baby should be refered for further audiology evaluation. Interpretation of audiology test results is complex and dependent on the degree of prematurity, age at the time of testing and comorbidities. Type and timing of eventual intervention is determined by the degree of the hearing impairment and other developmental disorders. It should be kept in mind that one third of babies identified as significant hearing loss in the first months oflife, later on could achieve normal hearing thresholds through maturation process. It is essential to monitor development of these children closely at least during first two years of life in order toadjust type of amplification and habilitation of hearing and speech

1-3‰. Pored toga, istraživanja pokazuju da tokom ranog detinjstva još 3/1000 dece
stekne oštećenje sluha značajnog stepena. Postoji veliki broj faktora koji
dovodi do visoke incidencije oštećenja sluha u populaciji dece. Zbog toga,
navedene kriterijume. Rezultati analize pokazuju nedoslednost u nalazima i
preporukama ovih istraživanja, što predstavlja posledicu nedovoljno velikih
uzoraka i neujednačenih kriterijuma procene. Imajući to u vidu, autori najčešće
navode sledeće etiološke faktore oštećenja sluha: boravak u jedinicama
intenzivne neonatalne nege duži od pet dana, mala telesna masa, nizak APGAR
skor, hiperbilirubinemija, mehanička ventilacija, ototoksična terapija,
intrauterine infekcije (naročito citomegalo virus), postnatalne infekcije
(bakterijski meningitis), kraniofacijalne malformacije, sindromi i
pozitivna porodična anamneza.
Neophodno je sprovesti obimnija istraživanja kroz postojeće programe
detekcije urođenih i rano stečenih oštećenja sluha.

AB - The incidence of hearing loss in population of prematurely born babies is twenty times higher (2-4 per 1000) than in well babies population (1-3 per 1000) due to numeorus risk factors. Although early birth is not a risk factor for hearing loss per se, the number of risk factors is in strong correlation with gestational age (Nikolić, 2016). Hearing loss is not allways present at birth, but it could be developed over first years of life as well. Progressive hearing loss could be missed through neonatal hearing screening, so that further monitoring of auditory function is mandatory in population of preterm babies (JCIH, 2007). The goal of this study was to establish the impact of gestational age on auditory development in preterm babies. The study has been conducted in Institute for neonatology in Belgrade, which is the referent hospital for treatment and follow-up of prematurely born babies. The group consisted of 150 prematurely born babies of both genders, 85 girls (56.7%) and 65 boys (43.3%)., which made gender neutral sample (χ2 = 2.67, df = 1, p = .12). The babies were born between 25. and 37. gestational week, with average gestational age of 31.87 weeks (Mdn = 32.5, SD = 2.67). The instrument for auditory assessment was LittlEars® Auditory Questionnaire (Tsiakpini et al, 2004), which is widely implemented for assessment of auditory development in preverbal phase. Previous studies have proven high correlation between scores and age, which implies that it is a good instrument for measurement of age related auditory behavior (Coninx et al., 2009; Nikolić, 2016; Tsiakpini et al., 2004; Weichbold, Tsiakpini, Coninx, & D`Haese, 2005). The data on auditory behavior of babies were summoned from parents at corrected age of 3, 6, 9 and 12 months for each baby. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, inferrential statistics and hyerachy multivariatt linear modelling. The influence of gestational age on LittlEars® scale score have shown moderate positive correlation Statistically significant correlation was found at 3 and 12 months corrected age (3 months - rs = .21, p = .01; 12 months - rs = .22, p = .01), which implies possibility of slower auditory development in babies with lower gestational age. The scores obtained at 6 and 9 months corrected age have shown positive correlation without statistical significance (6 months - rs = .16, p = .05; 9 months - rs = .15, p = .07). Further analysis have shown the impact of gestational age on auditory development, taking both calendary and corrected age of preterm babies into consideration. The results have shown considerable effect of gestational age on initial auditory achievement (χ2(128) = 199.94, p < .001), as well as on the pace of subsequent auditory developmentt (χ2(128) = 156.11, p = .046). The results have shown that each week of gestation adds 0.39 points to the initial auditory achievement and 0.41 points to the dynamics of auditory development, during the first year of life in preterm babies (corrected age). It is of utmost importance to determine criteria for follow-up of infants with risk factors for early or progressive hearing loss to develop quality early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) program. Our study has shown that gestational age could significantly affect auditory development and help define precise criteria for typical auditory achievements of prematurely born babies.

abstract = "The incidence of hearing loss in population of prematurely born babies is twenty times higher (2-4 per 1000) than in well babies population (1-3 per 1000) due to numeorus risk factors. Usvajanje auditivnog ponašanja gluve i nagluve dece (putem amplifikacije) označava sazrevanje slušanja i komunikacije, koje omogućavaju samostalno i efikasno funkcionisanje u čujućem okruženju.
AB - Auditory behavior is a social skill representing specific response to sound, speech or other acoustic stimuli. Auditory behavior is a system of dependant actions dedicated to certain functions (speech, communication, awareness of social environment, independent functioning), which requires interaction of a subject and his environment. Development of auditory behavior in deaf and hard of hearing (amplified) children, which is represented by improvement of hearing and communicational skills, enables independent and efficient functioning in a hearing environment. In order to learn about functioning of hearing impaired children in contact with others in various situations assessment of auditory behavior is done by numerous questionnaires for parents/caregivers. Some specifics of auditory behavior in newborns are state in researches. The researches confirm babies increased sensitivity for linguistic stimuli during early, preverbal development. That allows newborn to recognize certain regularities in the speech flow, which can help him to discriminate between language elements and principles. This paper represents the characteristics of auditory behavior of hearing children as well as auditory behavior of hearing impaired children of different ages.

AB - This study is observing both natural and learned gestures as a part of communication in hearing impaired children with cochlear implant and/or hearing aids, accompaning certain action or verbal statement. The objective of the study was to observe the frequency of gesture use in deaf and hard of hearing children with different types of amplification Various impact factors affecting frequency of gesture use, such as gender, chronological age, onset of rehabiliation and educational settings were taken into consideartion as well. The sample consisted of 40 children with severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss divided in two groups according to amplification type. Younger group consisted of children aged 5 to 10 years and older group 11 to 15 years. The cochlear implant group consisted of 18 children and hearing aid group of 22. The pairs of children with adjusted age and type of amplification have been filmed during play in the ‖ shop „with ten objects or age appropriate toys. The videos were analyzed afterwards and communication has been classified as verbal, total or gestual. Word list has been based on video records. The results have shown statistically significant advantage of boys regarding oral use of verbs (t(14) = 2,569, p<0,0) and early rehabilitated children (oral use of verbs t(14) = 2,575, p<0,05 and pronouns t(14) = 2,763, p<0,05). Gesture use is more frequent in older children with conventional hearing aids. Younger children tend to use more words than gestures. Cochlear implanted children use considerably less gestures. Overall number of words and gestures used in communication increases over time.. Key words: cochlear implant, gesture, hearing aid, children *Part of the project of Ministry of science and technological development of Serbia ―Influence of cochlear implantation on education of deaf and hard of hearing children ―.

AB - Speech audiometry, as one of the methods for hearing examination has been applied in our country. Compared to tonal audiometry, it provides us with the information how an individual hears and understand speech. It is practiced with adults and children. In our practical work, this method has proved useful for following results of re/habilitation of hearing and speech in children. The aim of this work is to examine speech perception of children with cochlear implant in free hearing field. Work method: the sample consisted of twenty children with cochlear implant, they were of average intellectual abilities, without other impairments, of both sexes, of chronological age between 5 to 9 and they were included into re/habilitation treatment for at least a year. With speech audiometry in free hearing field we estimated the ability to perceive one syllable and two syllable words. The word list was taken from Triage Articulation Test (Vladisavljevic, Kostic)which was standardized for our speech - language area, and consists of 30 words. The examiner presented a list of words presented by the microphone without the ability to read and see words from face and lips. Results present that two thirds of examined children had more than 80% correctly repeated words, that they perceived two syllable words and to those that had high tone sounds. Understanding one syllable words greatly lowered no matter what the sound structure is.

AB - Research subject: A signiicant progress in neonatal care for preterm babies in
recent decades has tremendously improved the survival rate of extremely and
considerably premature babies. On the other hand, it has increased the rate
of sensory deicits and developmental disorders that can be observed in early
childhood.
Method: he objective of the study was to establish evaluation criteria for auditory
development of preterm babies at an early age. Investigation was conducted
longitudinally in order to follow-up auditory development of preterm babies
during the irst year of life. he LittlEars
®
 auditory questionnaire was used for
evaluation of auditory behavior in babies in pre-verbal phase. he sample in
the study consisted of 150 preterm babies, whose auditory development was
monitored at the Institute for Neonatology in Belgrade.
Results: he results of the study have shown a signiicant impact of gestational
age at birth on auditory development of preterm babies. Babies born in later
pregnancy have shown better auditory performance at all ages as compared to
earlier preterm newborns. he analysis of auditory development in function of
corrected and chronological age has shown that correction factor of + 0.39 points
for starting point should be applied for each week of gestation and +0.41 points
should be added to the timeline during the irst year of life of premature babies.
Conclusion: According to the obtained results, preterm babies could be expected
to achieve age appropriate auditory performance during the second year of life.
he expected trend of auditory development becomes stable ater 12 months of
age, so only partial correction should be applied. Between 15 and 18 months of age
prematurely born babies should achieve milestones of the term babies. Deining
evaluation criteria for auditory development of preterm babies is extremely
important in order to avoid delayed diagnosis of deviation from typical auditory
development.

AB - Functionally speaking, auditory stimulation is the key factor of central auditory nerve system maturation of first years of life. Dynamics of anatomic and functional maturation of hearing could be affected by numerous factors, such as very low birth weight, asphyxia, mechanical ventilation, ototoxic drugs, etc., which are frequently met in preterm babies. High quality system of early detection, follow-up and support for auditory development in newborns is demanded, considering the fact that good auditory skills are necessary for optimal speech-language, cognitive and psycho-social development of a child. The objective of the study has been to evaluate development of auditory behavior in preterm babies and discover the influence of wide spectrum of biological, medical and social factors that could possibly affect auditory skills of prematurely born infants. In order to define timeline of normal auditory development for preterm babies, obtained results have been compared to normative for auditory behavior in term babies, considering the influence of both calendar and corrected age on auditory skills in preterm babies. Longitudinal study has been conducted using age as independent variable and auditory scores obtained on LittlEARS® auditory questionnaire scale as dependent variable. Auditory behavior of preterm babies was assessed by parents at corrected age of three, six, nine and 12 months respectively. The sample consisted of 150 preterm babies born in Republic of Serbia and hospitalized in Institute for neonatology in Belgrade. It is the central institution in Serbia for early support and follow-up of prematurely born babies. All preterm babies are included in the system of detailed health controls and monitoring in the Institute during first year of life. The results of our study have shown that auditory development in preterm babies follow the timeline of auditory skills development in term babies, if they are observed as a function of corrected age. On the contrary, there is considerable deviation from normative for auditory skills in term babies, if chronological age of preterm babies is taken into consideration. After one year of age it is expected that auditory development of preterm baby will gradually approximate timeline of term babies, and that the curve of auditory skills in function of corrected age should overlap with chronological age curve between 15 and 18 months...
AB - Auditivna stimulacija tokom prvih godina života predstavlja ključni element sazrevanja auditivnog nervnog sistema, sa funkcionalne tačke gledišta. Na dinamiku anatomskog i funkcionalnog sazrevanja slušnog sistema mogu uticati brojni faktori tokom pre-, peri- i post-natalnog života novorođenčeta (npr. mala telesna masa, asfiksija, primena mehaničke ventilacije, ototoksične terapije itd.), koji se češće javljaju kod prevremeno rođene dece. Imajući u vidu da uredne slušne sposobnosti predstavljaju glavni preduslov optimalnog govorno-jezičkog, saznajnog, psihosocijalnog razvoja deteta, postaje jasan pun značaj formiranja kvalitetnog sistema rane detekcije, praćenja i podrške auditivnog razvoja sve novorođene dece.
