AB - Theory of Mind (ToM) is a social-cognitive ability to understand the mental states of others. ToM functions are compromised in the case of mental disorders characterized by cognitive impairments. The Faux Pas Recognition test (FPRT) is considered a good measure of verbal aspects of ToM as it measures social adaptation through the adequate interpretation of potentially sensitive and awkward social situations. However, data on FPRT psychometric properties is somewhat limited. The aim of the present study is the psychometric evaluation of the FPRT in Serbian population. The adapted version in Serbian has been administered to 268 healthy participants, 30 patients with schizophrenia and 31 with bipolar affective disorder. The results show a high internal consistencies of Faux Pas stories (α = .954), Control stories (α = .929) and overall test (α = .936). Both Horn’s parallel analysis and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that a single-factor solution is optimal, supporting the premise of a general ToM ability underlying performance across test. The Faux Pas test showed good discriminative power in differentiation between individuals from healthy and clinical populations making it a useful clinical instrument.

AB - The aim of this research was to examine the levels of burnout syndrome dimensions in special education teachers and correlations with some socio-demographic characteristics, job characteristics, and levels of assertiveness. The research included 225 special education teachers from Serbia (82% were women, 18% were men, with the average age of 42.51 +/- 9.23 years). Research instruments included Maslach Burnout Inventory, Rathus Assertiveness Schedule, and a socio-demographic questionnaire. There were differences in all burnout dimensions in relation to types of students' special needs. Higher levels of burnout symptoms were observed in teachers working with children with motor skill disorders. The assertiveness scores had a significant negative correlation with emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation, and a positive correlation with a lack of accomplishment. The results obtained may help in the planning of the adequate preventative measures for improving the mental health of those professionals.

AB - Introduction. Numerous global studies as well as the studies from Serbia have indicateds the individuals professionally engaged in providing assistance to other people and who belong to the so-called "helping professions" (health workers, psychologists, pedagogists, social workers, teachers, etc.) as the professionals at a high risk for developing various psychophysical stress reactions and symptoms of a burnout syndrome. The burnout syndrome is viewed nowadays both as a social and a professional problem, and not only as a manifestation of the psychological state of an individual. Objective. The aim of this paper is to determine levels of the burnout syndrome in special education teachers working in schools for children with developmental disorders, as well as to determine a correlation between that phenomenon and socio-demographic aspects. Method. This cross-sectional study was conducted during the school year 2017/18. on a suitable sample and included 225 special education teachers from the Republic of Serbia. As research instruments, the Work-related Stress Inventory and a Questionnaire for collecting socio-demographic data were used. Results. A cross-sectional analysis of the socio-demographic aspects and the burnout syndrome has pointed to a statistically significant difference between the type of the students`disability (χ2 = 57.916; p lt 0.01) and the total length of the teachers`service (F (4) = 3.067, p = .017). Approximatelly one half of the respondents who work with students with motor skill disorders, and nearly one third of the respondents working with hearing impaired children possess the highest levels of burnout, while a logistic regression analysis has shown that professionals working in these fields have a 3.56-fold higher likelihood of manifesting high levels of burnout . Conclusion. Burnout syndrome is more pronounced in special education teachers who have been burning out due to their lengthy work engagement. And among them, at greater risk are those who work with children with motor skill disorders and hearing impairments. One should not forget one`s personal life that may affect the burnout. Living conditions, and above all an unsolved housing status therefore, show a closer relation with burning out.
"pomagačkim profesijama" (zdravstveni radnici, psiholozi, pedagozi, socijalni radnici, nastavnici itd.) pod visokim rizikom za razvijanje različitih psihofizičkih stresnih reakcija i simptoma sindroma izgaranja.

AB - "Reading the Mind in the Eyes" test (RMET) is one of the most popular and widely used measures of individual differences in Theory of Mind (ToM) capabilities. Despite demonstrating good validity in differentiating various clinical groups exhibiting ToM deficits from unimpaired controls, previous studies raised the question of the RMET's homogeneity, latent structure, and reliability. The aim of this study is to provide evidence on psychometric properties, latent structure, and validity of the newly adapted Serbian version of the RMET. In total, 260 participants (61.9% females) took part in the study. The sample consisted of both unimpaired controls (76.5%), and a clinical group of participants that are believed to demonstrate ToM deficits (23.5%), namely, persons diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (54.1% females). RMET has demonstrated fair psychometric properties (KMO=.723; alpha=.747; H1=.076; H5=.465), successfully differentiating between clinical group and control [F (1,254)=26.175, p lt . 001, eta(2)(p) =.093], while typical gender differences in performance were found only in control group. Tests of several models based on the previous literature revealed that the affect-specific factors underlying performance on RMET demonstrate poor fit. The best fitting model obtained included reduced scale with a single-factor underlying the test's performance (TLI=.953, CFI=.958, RMSEA=.020). Based on the fit parameters we propose 18-item short-form of the Serbian version of RMET (KMO=.797; alpha=.728; H1=.129; H5=.677) for economic, reliable and valid measurement of ToM abilities.

AB - Greek physicians of the Classical Era, considered that right brain hemisphere is specialized in perception, and left for understanding and comprehension. The raise of modern neuroscience intensified studies in differences between hemispheres. The present findings highlight the fact that there is asymmetry of the hemispheres at almost all levels, as well as numerous interhemispheric differences in neuropsychological function. Differences exist in the size and weight of the hemispheres, in the size and shape of the defined areas of the brain, in the in the number and the size of the neurons, in relation to the extent of branching of dendrites within the area and in the structure of the gray and white matter .There are also considerable differences in relation to the dopaminergic and noradrenergic transmission. All these differences, mostly on histological and physiological level are prerogative for hemispheric functional specialization i.e. assymetry. The left hemisphere is specialized for verbal functions, calculia and skillful learned movements (praxis). The right hemisphere is specialized for processing visual information, such as the perception of complex geometric shapes, facial recognition, observation of non-verbal sounds, performing various spatial functions, tactile perception of complex structures, musical ability, prosody, non-verbal thinking and memory. The left hemisphere is analytical, sequential, and the right is synthetic, holistic. The left hemisphere has more capacity for abstract or impersonal, while the right hemisphere is less prone to abstraction and prioritize the individual. Interhemispheric interaction is a very important function. Corpus callosum allows functional independence of the hemispheres, but also the integration, contributing to the wholeness of our perception of the world and our adaptive behaviors.
Razlike postoje u veličini i težini hemisfera, veličini i obliku definisanih area mozga, u broju i veličini neurona, u odnosu na opseg grananja dendrita unutar područja i u strukturi sive i bele mase. Postoje, takođe, značajne razlike u dopaminergičkoj i noradrenergičkoj transmisiji.
