Internalized and externalized behavioral problems in children and adolescents as consequences of the use of the internet

Abstract
The public debate the influences of the Internet as a very attractive medium for children and adolescents is still open. Advocated its educational potential, opportunities to connect with peers and adults, promoting social and other life skills, while on the other hand emphasized its harmful effects on personal and social functioning, 'threats' that 'stalk' on the Internet. There appears to be a wide variety of professionals ranging from medical, social over the natural sciences together about solving the problems of children and adolescents on the Internet. The aim of this paper is the consideration of the internalized and externalized problems in children and adolescents resulted from the use of the Internet. Based on the review of studies on the negative internet impact the behavioral problems can be grouped as internalized (anxiety, depression, loneliness, shyness, withdrawal) and externalized (aggressive behavior, substance abuse, gambling) problems. At the end, it will be stresse...d to the most popular orientation in the prevention and treatment of the problems that children and adolescents face on the internet.

U javnosti se vode polemike oko predznaka uticaja interneta kao vrlo atraktivnog medija za decu i adolescente. Zagovara se njegov edukativni potencijal, mogućnosti za povezivanje sa drugim vršnjacima i odraslima, unapređivanje socijalnih i drugih životnih veština, dok se sa druge strane ističu njegove štetne posledice po lično i socijalno funkcionisanje, naglašavaju stalne 'pretnje' koje 'vrebaju' na internetu. Najrazličitiji stručnjaci počevši od medicinskih, preko društvenih do prirodnih nauka okupili su se oko rešavanja problema dece i adolescenata na internetu. Cilj rada predstavlja sagledavanje internalizovanih i eksternalizovanih problema koji kod dece i adolescenata nastaju usled upotrebe interneta. Na osnovu pregleda studija o negativnom uticaju inerneta uočavaju se bihejvioralni problemi koji mogu biti grupisani kao internalizovani (anksioznost, depresija, usamljenost, stidljivost, povučenost) i eksternalizovani (agresivno ponašanje, zloupotreba psihoaktivnih supstanci, kockan...je). Na kraju, autorke upućuju na zaključke koji mogu poslužiti kao smernice za prevenciju i tretman problema sa kojima se deca i adolescenti suočavaju na internetu.
