Media (non)values in the transition time: Essay about the spirit of the present

Abstract
Media values of the transition society are manifestation of deeper economic, political, cultural and social processes. Part of the media use market and its relative freedom of using sensationalism, tuning the lowest tastes, demagogic-populist slogans, staged reality constructions and vocabulary of fear. In the transition capitalism for many medias key values are commonplace, primitivism, cheap demagogy, irresponsibility and nonintimacy that goes up to a 'sale of human sorrow'. Tabloidization of the media in transitional societies is an indicator of democratic development.
Medijske vrednosti tranzicionog društva su pojavni sloj dubljih ekonomskih, političkih, kulturoloških i društvenih procesa. Deo medija koristi tržište i njegovu relativnu slobodu služeći se senzacionalizmom, ugađanjem najnižim ukusima, demagoško-populističkim parolama, montiranim konstrukcijama stvarnosti i rečnikom straha. U tranzicionom kapitalizmu vodilje mnogim medijskim kućama su banalnost, primitivizam, jeftina demagogija, neodgovornost i deintimizacija koja ide čak i do 'rasprodaje ljudske tuge'. Tabloidizacija medija je u tranzicionom društvu indikator demokratskog razvoja.
