| sr |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Speech represents one of the noblest and most important human qualities and is the absolute privilege of man. The sense of hearing has a special role and importance, primarily because of its crucial role in the development of communicative abilities and the development of speech and language. Aim of the paper: The aim of this work is to analyzy the relevant literature to show the influence of hearing on the development of speech. Method: The review of the literature was carried out using the following search engines: PubMed, Google scholar, Science direct, Sage journals, Taylor & Francis Online. The analysis included scientific papers and professional literature. The literature was searched in Serbian and English. Results: In hearing-impaired children, speaking is delayed and further speech development is slowed down. The identification of hearing loss in the first months of life has a significant effect on the child's language and speech development. Children with early-identified hearing impairment significantly outperform late-identified children in terms of expressive and receptive speech. Hearing-impaired children who receive appropriate early assessment and hearing aid fitting at age 3 months and cochlear implantation at age 9 months can achieve normal language development in as many as 96% of cases. Conclusion: Hearing impairment negatively affects the development of speech. Hearing impaired children speak later. Hearing impairment affects all modalities of language – comprehension, production, reading and writing. | sr |
