Abstract
Blackburn's theory is one of the psychological concepts of criminal behaviour that finds its sources in psychopathy. The author has tried to conceptualize psychopathy as a wider behaviour rooted in deranged persons which is, at the same time, connected to other, especially cooperative-antagonistic behaviour. The fundamental features of psychopathy are hostility and aggressiveness. However, if compared to other aspects of behaviour, psychopaths may be considered as a heterogenic group. Blackburn's researches has proved that among violent offenders we can distinct sub-groups of primary and secondary psychopaths. Primary psychopaths are more persistently violent while the main characteristic of secondary psychopaths is an inferior self-evaluation. Both types of psychopaths are equally represented among dangerous offenders. Blacburn has put psychopathic characteristics inside the interpersonal circle suggesting that psychopathy presents the manifestation of attempts to retain compulsory ...control of the social environment supported by negative reactions expected from other people. For that reason psychopaths create conditions for interpersonal conflict in order to keep living in "their world". Therefore, Blackburn is of an opinion that social cognitive processes may secure a key for understanding offenders' behaviour, especially the behaviour of psychopaths.
