Introduction: Neurobiological activity that allows all the information obtained from the sensory systems, to receive and process in the brain is a sensory integration. This process takes place inside of our body, and the information comes from a tactile, proprioceptive, vestibular, auditory, visual, olfactory and gustatory system. Evaluation of sensory integration, or dysfunction of sensory integration, is multidimensional and involves assessing the sensitivity, functioning and behavior of the child
Goal: The research was conducted in order to determine the differences and specificities of
sensorymotor development between Children of hearing impairment and children of typical development of pre-school age, as well as to identify special differences in sensorymotor development in relation to gender, age and level of hearing impairment.
Method: The research was conducted in 2017 at the Department of Audiological Rehabilitation of the Clinical Center of Serbia, Center for Early Diagno...sis and Therapy of Children with Hearing Disorders "Dečja kuća" and in the institution "Car Konstantin i carica Jelena". The questionnaire was filled in by a total of 74 parents who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research. The instrument used for data collection is the Questionnaire on the sensorymotor development of pre-school children.
Results: Sensorymotor development between children with hearing impairment and hearing children of pre-school age did not reveal differences in the domain of self-control, sensory motion processing and motor maturity, while in the domain of sensory touch processing and emotional functioning, differences are exists. Gender, age and level of hearing impairment did not appear to be factors influencing the sensorymotor development of children with hearing impairment.
Conclusion: It is necessary to work on training parents to find out the difficulties their children are experiencing in the meantime, as well as knowing who to call for professional help. A wide range of activities should be used to improve sensory integration, and a child should be provided with a beneficial sensory intake throughout the day.
