| sr |
dc.description.abstract | Dysgraphia is a specific disability in development, learning and acquiring the writing ability even in children with normal intelligence, good eyesight and hearing, appropriate education, and social conditions (Golubović, 2000, 2011). The aim of this research is to determine the frequency and type of dysgraphia in third- and fourth-grade children, to assess certain elements of phonological awareness in children with dysgraphic handwriting, and to determine reading speed, counting the number of reading mistakes, and understanding the text read. The research was conducted in four elementary schools in and near Pančevo, Serbia. The research sample consisted of 276 children of both sexes, out of which 146 are third-grade children (71 girls and 75 boys) and 130 fourth-grade children (60 girls and 70 boys). Dysgraphic Handwriting Assessment Теst was used to assess handwriting samples (Ćordić and Bojanin, 1992), every child individually read and paraphrased a text "Just Another Snowy Day", аnd their phonological awareness was tested individually via the FONT Test (Subotić, 2011). The results of this research reveal that 27 children (9.78%) have dysgraphic handwriting, that dysgraphia is more frequent in boys than girls, and that graphic-motor dysgraphia (55.56%) is the more common type than language dysgraphia (44.44%). According to the results, children with dysgraphia read longer, make more mistakes, and understand partially or do not understand the text read at all. By testing phonological awareness, it was found that the children with dysgraphia achieved the lowest results on the elimination of the initial phoneme and the identification of final phoneme. | sr |
