| sr |
dc.description.abstract | The aim of this paper is to systematize knowledge about the effects of auditory deprivation in congenitally deaf people to morphological structure of brain areas involved in auditory function, by review of available literature and critical analysis of the results shown in selected studies. As a result of the comprehensive search, a total of 18 studies were collected and examined, and 7 of them met the inclusion criteria, that is assessing the morphological structure of brain areas involved in auditory function and congenitally deaf people in the focus of research. A careful analysis of the results were not detected data in favor of atrophy of the brain areas involved in auditory function, but most studies registered hypoplasia of the white matter in the temporal lobes of the left hemisphere. Morphological hemispheric asymmetry at the level of the auditory cortex of congenitally deaf people is preserved in the absence of auditory input. Although these structural changes quite subtle cortical organization, the auditory area, and its neurophysiology, may have significant clinical implications. Results of the presented study indicate the possibility of the existence of a critical period for the establishment of links at the speech centers of the temporal lobe of the left hemisphere. The difficulties faced by some patients who later performed cochlear implantation may be the result of hypoplasia of the level of the road. The introduction of new neuroimaging methods can provide us with answers to many questions, so it is necessary to perform further research in this area in order to create new insights comprehensive picture of the effects of auditory deprivation. | sr |
