Abstract
The aim of this research is to determine the intelligibility of speech in children with cerebral palsy of pre-school and young school age in relation to the level of intellectual functioning and the presence or absence of epilepsy. The research sample consists of 30 children with spastic cerebral palsy, aged 6 to 8 years. In the research, a Test for intelligibility of speech was used as a measuring instrument (Vladisavljevic, 1983). According to the results of the assessment of speech intelligibility, the highest percentage of children with spastic cerebral palsy has a slightly distorted speech (33.3%), followed by children with very distorted speech (23.3%) and completely incomprehensible speech (23.3%), while 20% of children have an intelligible speech. Research has found statistically significant effect of the presence of intellectual disability and epilepsy on the intelligibility of speech in children with spastic cerebral palsy (p < 0.05).
