Abstract
Building upon previous research, the article discusses general issues surrounding loss, change and bereavement in people with intellectual disability. We examine the current opinion regarding the ability of people with intellectual disabilities to understand the concept of death, knowledge of social care staff about grieving process in individuals with intellectual disabilities, what are emotional, psychiatric and behavioral responses to bereavement and what are the most effective ways of support for bereaved people with intellectual disabilities.
