Acquisition of elementary arithmetical operations in children with impaired intellectual development

Usvojenost elementarnih računskih operacija kod dece ometene u intelektualnom razvoju

Abstract
The aim of our research was to determine the levels of acquisition of elementary arithmetical operations of addition and subtraction among children with impaired intellectual development and the correlation between spatial perception and elementary arithmetical operations. We examined 124 intellectually hampered subjects, aged 8-16, by the use of the LAP test for academic achievement assessment and the Better-Craige test for evaluating spatial perception. The research showed that the subjects obtained better results in estimating mathematical operations of addition than subtraction. Further, the correlative analysis between elementary arithmetical operations and spatial perception indicates the existence of statistically highly significant relatedness. The obtained results highlight the need for curricular changes and the importance of curricular contents adjustments to the students' individual abilities and capabilities dependent on the development of spatial perception.
Ciljevi ovako koncipiranog istraživanja odnose se na utvrđivanje nivoa usvojenosti elementarnih računskih operacija sabiranja i oduzimanja kod dece ometene u intelektualnom razvoju, kao i utvrđivanje korelacije između prostorne percepcije i elementarnih računskih operacija. Sto dvadeset četiri ispitanika s intelektualnom ometenošću starosti 8-16 godina ispitano je LAP testom za procenu školskog postignuća i Beter-Craginovim testom procene percepcije prostora. Našim istraživanjem dokazano je da su ispitanici bolje rezultate postigli pri proceni računske operacije sabiranja u odnosu na oduzimanje. Korelativna analiza između elementarnih računskih operacija i prostorne percepcije ispitanika ukazuje na postojanje visoko statistički značajne povezanosti. Dobijeni rezultati ukazuju na potrebu promene nastavnih programa, kao i na važnost prilagođavanja nastavnih sadržaja dečjim individualnim sposobnostima i mogućnostima u skladu sa razvojem prostorne percepcije.
