Assessment of students' social functioning in school environment

Abstract
The evaluation of students' social functioning implies an analysis of positive and negative behaviors, i.e. the evaluation of social competence and antisocial behavior. The first part of the article is dedicated to defining the concepts of social competence and social skills, and the role of these constructs in the development of antisocial behavior. Presented are the results of a research on social functioning of the students of nine schools in Belgrade (N=1398). The data about the students were gathered from their teachers and class masters. We used the School Social Behavior Scale - SSBS-2 for the analysis. The prominent results are the following: 82% of the students are on an average or above average level of social functioning; a deficit of social skills was found in 12% of the students; 12% of the students exhibit antisocial behavior; in 6% of the students both the deficit of social competencies and antisocial behavior was found; there is a statistically significant moderate corr...elation between the level of social competence and the level of antisocial behavior (.04). The final part presents the results of the evaluation of the programmes for enhancing social functioning and offers some suggestions for improving the efficiency of the programmes which are used in our educational institutions.

Procena socijalnog funkcionisanja učenika podrazumeva sagledavanje pozitivnog i negativnog ponašanja, odnosno socijalne kompetencije i antisocijalnog ponašanja. Prvi deo rada posvećen je pojmovnom određenju socijalne kompetencije i socijalnih veština, kao i ulozi ovih konstrukata u razvoju antisocijalnog ponašanja. U radu su prikazani rezultati istraživanja socijalnog funkcionisanja učenika devet beogradskih škola (N=1398). Podaci o učenicima prikupljeni su od učitelja i razrednih starešina. U istraživanju je korišćena Skala socijalnog ponašanja u školi (School Social Behavior Scale -SSBS-2). Najvažniji rezultati istraživanja su: 82% učenika ima prosečan ili natprosečan nivo socijalnog funkcionisanja; deficit socijalnih veština otkriven je kod 12% učenika; 12% učenika ispoljava antisocijalno ponašanje; kod 6% učenika istovremeno postoji deficit socijalne kompetencije i antisocijalno ponašanje; postoji statistički značajna umerena korelacija između nivoa socijalne kompetencije i nivoa a...ntisocijalnog ponašanja (.04). U završnom delu rada prikazani su rezultati evaluacija programa unapređivanja socijalnog funkcionisanja i date preporuke za poboljšanje efektivnosti programa koji se primenjuju u obrazovno-vaspitnim ustanovama.
