Abstract
This work presents the results of a research of the use of expletive ("excessive") negation of early school age children. This research has been carried out on a sample of 200 examinees, divided into five different age groups, i. e. 40 children in each grade (I, II, III, IV and V). Our examination has been conducted on the language corpus specially made for this purpose. The corpus contains ten declarative communicative sentences with subordinate temporal clause all of them meaning the measure of time. The aim was to see if there was any correlation between the use of negation for special affirmation and cognitive development of early school age children. We also tried to examine if there was some parallel use of affirmative and negative predicate verb form in given sentences. The results show that there is no such thing as synonymous use with both affirmative and negative predicate verb form While the affirmative predicate verb forms show affirmative position, this affirmation particu...larly emphasised by expletive negation. Therefore, the sentences with expletive negation are not only affirmative, but especially affirmative sentences. .
