Antecedents for augmentative and alternative communication emergence
Preduslovi za nastanak augmentativne i alternativne komunikacije
Abstract
AAK grow out of the need to provide methods and materials to meet the communication needs of individuals with little or no functional speech. Traditional speech-language pathology treatment, which focused on improving the intelligibility and articulation of natural speech, was found to be generally ineffective for individuals with secure communication disabilities. Innovative clinicians and educators were prompt to develop and use new intervention strategies that focused not on the natural speech, but rather on augmentative and alternative methods of communication, including manual signs and graphic symbols. Early uses of AAK were based on the knowledge and skill of individuals, not on science. The scientific base developed when special education and rehabilitation programs began to apply the principles of operant technology in their teaching programs.
AAK je izrasla iz potrebe da se stvore metode i sredstva kojima bi se zadovoljile komunikacione potrebe osoba sa neznatnim ostatcima, ili bez funkcionalnog govora. Tradicionalni logopedski tretman, koje je bilo fokusiran na unapređenje inteligibilnosti govora i artikulaciju prirodnog govora, generalno je bio neefikasan kod osoba sa teškim komunikacionim poremećajima. Inovatori, kliničari i edukatori, bili su odlučni da razviju i primenjuju novu interventnu strategiju koja se nije fokusirala na prirodni govor, već na augmentativne i alternativne metode u komunikaciji, uključujući manuelne znake i grafičke simbole. Rana upotreba AAK se bazirala na znanjima i veštinama pojedinaca, ali ne i na nauci. Naučni razvoj je počeo kada su specijalni edukativni i rehabilitacioni programi počeli da primenjuju principe operativne tehnologije u svojim doktrinama.
