The modern age in which we live, the digital age, implies the widespread use of digital devices in all areas of human functioning. This representation of them has led to the fact that exposure to the screen is noticeable even at the earliest age, in children. Research conducted so far shows the presence of a connection between excessive screen exposure in children and developmental delays. The subject of this paper was the investigation of the connection between excessive screen exposure in children and delays in psychomotor development. The research included 50 parents of children aged 30 to 36 months. We used a modified questionnaire for parents to determine the time spent in front of the screen and the ASQ (Ages and Stages Questionnaire) to determine potential delays in children in all developmental domains.
The significant results of this research indicate a statistically significant relationship between behavior and time spent in front of the screen (r = .39, p < .05). The result...s of Spearman's correlation test indicate that there is no statistical relationship between the area of communication/speech and screen time (r = .97, p =.50), then gross motor skills and screen time (r = .03, p =.81), fine motor skills and screen time (r = .09, p =.54), problem solving and screen time (r = .04, p =.77) and personality/sociability and screen time (r = .04, p =.76).
The conducted research represents a good basis for conducting further research on this issue, the results of which would be of great importance for the improvement of practice in the field of family-oriented early intervention.
