Writing is the most complex ablitiy it the hierarchy of language functions. Written speech develops at the latest and is a kind of medium of spoken expression. Writing can be defined as ability to properly graphically shape letters and a complex psychomotor process in which a large number of muscles of the hands, hands and figers participate and which is coordinated by a complex nervous system.
The main goal of this research is to asses the level of maturity of the manuscript and the percentage of dysgraphic forms in the manuscript. Specific objectives relate to the existence / non- existence of differences in urban handwriting in relation to the rural environment, boys in relation to girls.
The examined sample included students of the third, fourth and fifth grade in the area of Mrkonjic Grad and the municipality of Jezero. The sample consisted of 148 students (of which 74 girls, and 74 boys). The research was conducted using two scales: the Manuscript Maturity Assessment Scale and ...the Manuscript Dysgraphia Assessment Scale. According to the results of the research, it was determined that in 18,8% of the respondents the handwriting did not correspond to the age, and in 80,5% of students the handwriting was appropriate for the age.
The results of the research showed the presence of dysgraphia in 14,1% of respodents, among which a distincly dygraphic handwriting was identified in 4% of respodents. In the group of children with dysgraphic handwriting, 58,6% were classified in the category of graphomotor dysgraphia, and 41,1% were classified in the category of linguistic dygraphia. In addition to these results, inconsistent / difficult to read manuscript was found in 7,4% of respodents. The largest percentage of respodents (77,9%) have a harmonious handwriting. It also been shown that there are significant differences in the maturity and quality of boys hadwriting compared to girls.
Differences in the quality and maturity of manuscripts are also evident between rural and urban areas, where children from rural areas have better achievments in terms of both maturity and quality of manuscripts.
