As a consequence of cerebrovascular stroke, numerous neurological damage occurs. If the localization of the stroke is in the area of the left hemisphere and language areas, there is usually a loss or severe damage to language functions, ie. aphasia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the spontaneous recovery of language functions in a patient with stroke. A 72-year-old patient is shown.
The Aphasia Screening Test, the Boston Diagnostic Test for Aphasia, the Boston Naming Test, and the Token Test were used to assess language functions. Testing was performed in the acute period, three months after stroke and six months after stroke. The results of the evaluation of spontaneous recovery show that both hypotheses were confirmed, that there was an evident improvement in language functions in the first three months, as well as that after six months there were mild residual deficits of language functions.
