Normal hearing is crucial for speech and language development, communication and learning process. It was previously thought that unilateral sensorineural hearing loss (USHL) in children does not leave consequences, since speech and language can adequately develop with only one normal haring ear. In recent decades, the results of numerous studies have begun to be published, suggesting that a significant percentage of children with USHL have many developmental problems and many aspects of functioning from behavioral, communication, and educational problems compared to their hearing peers. Also noted is the possibility of delays in the development of speech and language. The aim of the paper was to present, based on a review of relevant literature and online databases, the negative impact of unilateral sensorineural hearing loss in children, on the development of speech and language, communication, and educational achievement. The etiology, importance of early detection and rehabilitation are also discussed.sr
