In order for the oral linguistic expression to be correct, it is necessary to master and apply orthographic rules. Orthographic norm, however, implies knowledge and skills that become a habit by means of direct practice. Orthographic rules are acquired relatively fast, but the habit to comply with them in practice develops very slowly and with difficulty. For that reason, adoption and mastering of orthographic rules presents a difficult task for deaf and hard of hearing pupils. The objective of this research was to study in which degree deaf and hard of hearing pupils mastered the usage of punctuation marks, considering their auditive deficit, since the equivalents of punctuation marks in written speech are suprasegmental elements in oral speech. We also studied the linkage between age, degree of hearing impairment, grade in Serbian language, gender and degree of adoption of punctuation in the population of deaf and hard of hearing pupils. Research was conducted in schools for deaf and hard of hearing pupils in Belgrade and Jagodina and in one regular primary school in Belgrade. The sample consisted of two groups of respondents: deaf and hard of hearing pupils from 5th to 8th grade, N=67, and hearing pupils, N=60. The instrument used in the research is Punctuation Test (N. Dimić). Based on the results of the conducted research, we reached the conclusion that deaf and hard of hearing pupils achieve considerably lower results from their hearing peers regarding the adoption and application of orthographic rules referring to the usage of punctuation marks. A special problem for deaf and hard of hearing pupils is the adoption of punctuation marks referring to indirect speech. Also, a serious problem for deaf and hard of hearing pupils is the application of rules referring to the usage of several punctuation marks in one sentence as well.en
Zbog toga usvajanje i ovladavanje pravopisnim pravilima gluvim i nagluvim učenicima predstavlja težak zadatak. Takođe, gluvim i nagluvim učenicima ozbiljan problem predstavlja i primenjivanje pravila o upotrebi više znakova interpunkcije u jednoj rečenici.sr
