AB - The aim of this research is to establish the characteristics of voluntary attention in visually impaired children. We assessed the voluntary attention mechanisms by applying an adapted Cancellation test with geometrical forms. The distribution of the obtained results in relation to the degree of visual impairment indicates that 33.8% of cases in the category of blind examinees achieve a maximum score, 25.3% in the low-vision category, and 14.1% in the category of legally blind examinees achieve a maximum score in this test. The distribution of the results obtained regarding the time span indicates that most low-vision and legally blind examinees can solve the test within this time span, whereas the blind examinees require much more than 162 s.

AB - This investigation project focuses on the field of perception of rhythm and orientation in time in the population of the children with visual impairments. This paper, as part of the wider project investigation, treats the neurodevelopmental area of perception of time, which is important for recognizing the quality of cognitive functioning, school achievement and common social functioning and social adaptation at the conditions of their existential situation. The investigated sample includes 71 children with visual impairments, both sex rates, who were attending special schools for blind in Belgrade. The sample was tested by the Test of Rhythm by the author M. Stambak, which is in use in our environment as the standard diagnostic procedure in children with developmental disabilities. The results of investigation point to the significance of perception of rhythm and orientation in time at different categories of disabilities and impairments of vision. Based on the preliminary results, we can conclude about the significance of the wider analyses of the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches adapted to the developmental characteristics and special needs of the population of children with visual impairments.
